FAQs

Where is Velty coffee sourced from?

Our coffee is currently being sourced from women farmers and producers in Nicaragua and Colombia. We are excited to expand to more countries and maintain our model of supporting women throughout our supply chain.

Is there caffeine in Velty?

Our uncaf coffee is decaffeinated and has less than 2g of caffeine per serving, compared to 95g in a regular 8oz cup of coffee. All decaffeinated coffee has trace amounts of caffeine due to the decaffeination process.

What is instant coffee?

Instant coffee is brewed coffee liquid that has been freeze-dried, removing the water so  that when added back in, it’s as if it’s freshly brewed. Instant coffee does not include ground coffee beans. It’s more like a dehydrated version of your favorite cup.

We partner with an instant coffee manufacturing company that has a proprietary freeze-drying, multi-stage process that allows them to extract the coffee concentrate evenly without harsh temperatures or pressure. They freeze-dry in small batches to obtain better control and preserve the original flavor and aromatics of each coffee utilized.

Does instant coffee use chemicals in the process of freeze drying?

Velty does not use chemicals in any process of making our coffee. Larger coffee companies state they do not use chemicals, however the coffee supply chain they use is often not pesticide, herbicide, and fungicide free. They do not offer an organic variety and all of their coffee is also usually pre-ground and not fresh. Although their coffee can be cheap and convenient, you are getting poor quality coffee.

What is digestif?

Di·ges·tif   Pronounced: /ˌdēZHeˈstēf/

A digestif is a drink or portion of food drunk or eaten in order to aid the digestion process.

Digestifs are often thought of for their alcoholic versions, but the after-dinner cup of coffee is a classic nonalcoholic digestif. Coffee can aid digestion in a similar manner to alcoholic digestifs.

We’ve added functional ingredients to our instant uncaf coffee to aid in mind- and gut-health, aiding in digestion along with high fiber content of our mushrooms and inulin.

How long will Velty stay fresh?

Velty can stay fresh up to one (1) year in an unopened sachet at room temperature. Longevity is one of the reasons we chose to do instant coffee as our first product! Once opened, the CO2 in the air will slowly start to change the taste, thus, we suggest consuming Velty on demand.

What is uncaf?

'Decaffeinated' or 'decaf' feels like a tired way of saying “the caffeine has been removed” and carries a stigma of burnt and bitter taste with it, after years of coming in second to regular caffeinated coffee. We feel it’s time for a rebrand and to fully own how great decaf can be. We coined the term “uncaffeinated,” or “uncaf,” because it’s the new wave of unapologetically premium, flavorful coffee with caffeine removed.

Yes! Our founder is Sharon Taylor and you can read more about her story on The Barista

In addition to being woman-owned, we focus on supporting women throughout our supply chain, specifically sourcing coffee from women farmers and producers. Read more about our sourcing.

Is Velty Certified Organic?

Though our sourcing practices are organically oriented, some of the coffees that we source, like anything that comes from Colombia, can’t be organically certified due to a chemical process that takes place.

Ethyl Acetate is an organic compound found in sugarcane, thus, why it is commonly known as “natural decaffeination process”. The process starts by fermenting the molasses that derive from the sugarcane and resulting in the formation of ethanol. This alcohol is then mixed with acetic acid (the main component found in vinegar and a byproduct of fermentation), to create the final compound, ethyl acetate.

Can I drink Velty while pregnant or breastfeeding?

All of our ingredients are pregnancy-friendly and our coffee contains less than 2g of caffeine, fitting safely in the recommendations for daily caffeine during pregnancy and breast-feeding. However, we always recommend consulting your doctor before consuming Velty. You can access our ingredient and nutritional information on our product page.
